Parent-teacher phone call reminder

We warmly invite and strongly encourage you to book at appointment to talk to your child’s class teacher on the evening of either Tuesday 25th or Thursday 27th May. This conversation will allow teachers to talk about your child’s learning strengths and future targets. It will also provide an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. Please follow this link to book your appointment using the online system > http://www.parents-booking.co.uk/edensideprimary

Our Amazing Planet overview and video

This term, all classes from nursery to P6 have started learning about ‘Our Amazing Planet’. Our youngest learners are exploring our local wildlife, enjoying finding out about bugs and beasties in the Secret Garden. In the middle classes, children are finding out about the different climate zones, from the polar caps to the dry desserts. Then P5s and 6s are thinking about the impact of extreme weather including storms and droughts. Everyone is learning more about ‘Our Amazing Planet’. Why not watch this short video to find out a bit more? https://youtu.be/vb8LvEZzWAI

Primary 7 – getting High School ready

Whilst the rest of the school are learning about ‘Our Amazing Planet’, our P7s are spending their time getting ready for High School. Both classes are following a timetable of weekly sessions introducing them to different elements of High School life. They are also being visited every Friday by Marie Gillies, one of the High School youth workers. On top of these weekly ‘in school’ supports, the High School will be starting a suite of transition activities over the coming weeks to ensure our children are as ‘High School ready’ as they can be. Further details will be shared very soon.

Parent council zoom link – Thursday 13th May, 7.30-8.30pm

We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at next week’s parent council zoom meeting. The private link and joining details will be shared via email next week but please keep the date in your diary.

Parking request

When collecting children at the end of the school day, please avoid parking in Mansfield Court (and similar) this is designated residential parking for owners of these properties. Please park along Inch Road or, even better, stop at the workshops and ‘park and stride’. Thank you for helping us work in partnership with our local community.

Summer term plans

We have recently had confirmation from the SBC COVID Education Recovery group that we can begin to plan for some of the ‘normal’ summer term events and activities; this is welcome news and will enable our children to enjoy, for example, a sports day. Unfortunately, any events that do take place during the school day will be limited to pupils and school staff only; we are not permitted to invite families to attend. As a result, any special events over the coming weeks will be recorded and /or live streamed to ensure everyone can enjoy them!

Parent survey – on behalf of SBC HQ

The link below will direct you to a survey that aims to capture your experience and views on your child’s home learning this year as well as your thoughts on mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people. The survey will only take minutes to complete and will be live until the 17th of May. The topics covered in the survey have been agreed with the Parent Council Chair’s Forum.   https://forms.office.com/r/Hm4KpbLcDT We would be very grateful if you would spare the time to complete the survey.

Staying vigilant – protecting all of us takes all of us

Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our children, our staff and you as families is our number one priority right now. Please help us by:

1) Following the ‘4 steps for being safe on the school run’;

  • Adults must wear a face covering at drop off / pick up.
  • Stick to one adult at drop off / pick up.
  • Adults keep 2 metres apart.
  • Avoid car sharing.

2) Being vigilant about COVID-19 symptoms; self-isolate if required and follow NHS ‘Test and Protect’ advice. Please phone the school to let us know if a member of your household tests positive.

3) Reporting a child’s positive test result immediately either by phoning the school (if during office hours) or using our new ‘positive test’ form.
