Nursery bulletin: Friday 29th October 2021

Dear families,

What a wet week of fun the children have had this week!

Highlights from this week:

The biggest highlight of the week was the arrival of our new water tray, it was not the new equipment that caused the excitement but the large box it arrived in.  They estimated how many children could fit in the box and then had great fun finding out who was right.  Some children had a picnic inside while others made it into a vehicle. When the box went into the nurture room the children took teddies inside and pretended to go to sleep.  It was wonderful to watch the endless potentials of a cardboard box.

The children really engaged with the ‘Enormous Turnip’ story.  They  decided to make soup using turnip, so we wrote a shopping list and once the ingredients were bought they peeled, chopped and mixed the vegetables to make soup.  This activity sparked conversations about food safety: why we was our hands before cooking, how we keep ourselves safe when using sharp safety knives and when using the cooker.  The children then had their soup for snack with mixed reviews.  Most of the children tried it and one even called it “magic soup”.

There has been lots of mark making this week.  The two year olds were using rollers and paint and decorated their art work with glitter and sprinkles with great success.  Children were making marks in the playdough with tools and cutters and also helped to write our shopping list.

The children have been making the most of the rainy weather.  The two year olds went on a ‘wellie walk’ to find lots of the puddles, they returned to nursery slightly soggy but really happy.  The other children had an amazing afternoon out in the garden in the heavy rain,  some were running, jumping and even sitting in the puddles, while others were hiding under their umbrellas.  We are fortunate to have waterproofs and wellies for each child to give them these opportunities.

We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.
