Nursery bulletin: Thursday 29th April 2021

Dear families,

What a difference a week can make!   The sun may not have been shining but we dusted off the waterproofs and wellies and braved the elements.  No much stops the children at Edenside Nursery.

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

  • The children have been really interested in the changes that they are seeing outside. The blossom and buds growing on the trees, the wild garlic in the secret garden and the dandelions in the school field.  Some children picked some of the dandelions and brought them back to nursery and added the flowers to their playdough.  They also collected pine cones and have been counting and sorting them by size and shape.
  • We opened the doors today to our own ‘Garden Centre’, the children have been talking about plants, flowers and seeds and will be selling these in their shop along with coffee, tea and cakes from the café. We are helping the children identify and use a range of coins.
  • The children have enjoyed playing games in small groups. Many of the games involve throwing a dice and moving counters or picking a card, the children have been practising turn taking, counting and recognising numbers and number patterns.
  • Our bakers have made shortbread and apricot flapjack slices.

Staffing

We are delighted to share some good news from our staff team. Mrs Smithson will be taking up post as an Excellence and Equity Officer for SBC, starting later this term. Miss Fojcik will be leaving us at the end of the summer to become and Early Years Officer in Jedburgh, a little bit closer to home for her. Finally, we are very pleased that Mrs Moir will continue on as our full time Early Years Officer until Miss McHarg returns next year. The rest of our Nursery team will be remaining with us in August.

Snack money

Please continue to make snack payments of 50p per child per day via ParentPay.  If you are having any problem with this please speak to a member of staff.

Illness

Aware of the rise in Covid cases nationally, we are continuing to be vigilant to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

Have a lovely long weekend!

Love from,

The Nursery Team
