P1-7 bulletin: Friday 1st October 2021

What a week we’ve had! Our special Maths Week Scotland focus has been a huge success, with children across the school giving extra attention to all things mathematical. With special lessons in the classroom, a scavenger hunt in the secret garden, challenges from the University of Edinburgh and a maths relay challenge during PE, maths has been everywhere. The special photo challenge was great too, seeing many fractions photos submitted. Congratulations to all our winners and runners up.

We hope you all have a great weekend and look forward to seeing the children again on Monday. Until then, here’s the latest news for your information. Take care.

Staffing news

They say all good things must come to an end and so we must say a fond farewell two of Team Edenside:

  • Mrs Hogarth has been with the school for over 20 years, supporting hundreds of children in her time here. But now it’s time to look after her own grandchildren so Mrs Hogarth will be leaving us at the October break. I’m sure you’ll join me in thanking her for her support and in wishing her all the very best for the future. A replacement Pupil Support Assistant is being recruited at the moment.
  • Mr Stobie, a relatively new face to the team, has been offered a new job as a full time High School PE teacher. This is the job Mr Stobie trained for and so we wish him all the best but will miss him and his PE lessons. A replacement PE teacher is being recruited at the moment.

IMPORTANT – Road crossing patrol next week

Due to staff absences, we will only have 1 crossing patrol after school next week. All children should cross at the swimming pool end at the end of the day.

Be ready – the weather is changing

As we move into the Autumn months, please ensure your child is ready for the weather. Whilst it may be sunny in the morning, it can change through the day. A waterproof coat is essential to ensure your child can enjoy outdoor play and learning. Thank you.

COVID update

We have been so pleased with the positive steps we’ve taken to make school a but more ‘normal’. This past week has seen 5 days of year group lunch times with peers eating and playing together, out with their class bubbles. It continues to be so good to see friends reconnecting across classes. We’ve also been able to trial year group learning sessions too during Maths week. We will continue to monitor transmission levels carefully and act accordingly. For now, we can enjoy the positive benefits of the ongoing gradual recovery.

Despite this, please continue to be vigilant in spotting and acting on COVID symptoms. Please get a PCR test if needed and keep your child at home until results are received. Thank you.
