P1-7 bulletin: Friday 23rd April 2021

A note from Mr Bewsey

What an amazing week of sunshine we’ve had to start the new summer term. Long may it continue. It has been a very positive week here at Edenside, with the children returning to ‘normal’. Our P1s have settled into their new morning routine really well, being very grown up walking straight to their classrooms like all the ‘big kids’. Our P7s have received their ‘Leavers 2021’ hoodies, marking the final few weeks of their time here at Edenside. For all the other classes, we’ve had a busy week of learning and laughter. Thank you to you as families for your ongoing support with all matters.

Staying vigilant – protecting all of us takes all of us

Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our children, our staff and you as families is our number one priority right now. Please help us by:

1) Following the ‘4 steps for being safe on the school run’;

  • Adults must wear a face covering at drop off / pick up.
  • Stick to one adult at drop off / pick up.
  • Adults keep 2 metres apart.
  • Avoid car sharing.

2) Being vigilant about COVID-19 symptoms; self-isolate if required and follow NHS ‘Test and Protect’ advice. Please phone the school to let us know if a member of your household tests positive.

3) Reporting a child’s positive test result immediately either by phoning the school (if during office hours) or using our new ‘positive test’ form.

Summer term readiness

With the sun shining and outdoor time increasing, it is even more important than ever to ensure you send you child to school ready for the day. We ask that you send a water bottle and a snack every day and consider applying sun cream each morning.

Dates for your diary

  • Friday 30th April: School closed for pupils.  In-service for staff.
  • Monday 3rd May: School closed to everyone. May Day bank holiday.
  • Tuesday 4th May: Back to school for everyone.

As lockdown restrictions continue to ease, we are hopeful that we will be able to offer some ‘normal’ summer term activities for our children. Whilst these may still be in ‘bubbles’ and may not have visitors permitted, we are keen to ensure the children enjoy the annual sports day in some form and our P7s get a proper send off, albeit a variation of the norm. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we have greater clarity including any ‘live’ viewing options that may be offered.

Getting ready for August

This summer term will fly by and our plans for August are well underway. Preparing your children for the new school year will be an important part of the end of this term. For nursery children moving up to P1, we will be sharing important information very soon. For our P7s, they are spending a significant amount of time this term talking about and preparing for their move to High School. For all other children ‘moving up’, we will share details about new classes once confirmed. We understand that change is a big deal and we want to support every child and family to feel happy about coming back to school after the summer holidays.

Parent Council

We will be hosting this term’s Parent Council meeting soon, details of which will be shared in due course. The Parent Council is for everyone to join; everyone is welcome. It is a chance to meet other parents and talk about the work of the school, what’s going well and what you think we could be doing even better. Look out for the date and Zoom invite very soon.

A vote of thanks

Just before Christmas, before we went into lockdown 2.0, we received a number of generous financial donations but, as a result of the lockdown, we omitted to say to a formal thank you. As a school, we are so grateful to the Kelso Laddie Association, to Kelso North church and to our ‘Christmas show’ donors. This financial support is so important in helping us fulfil the ‘Edenside Offer’.

We are also continually grateful to our Parent Council who willing support us financially, most recently purchasing new books for every class.
