Nursery bulletin: Friday 23rd April 2021

Dear nursery families,

What a wonderful week we have had, the glorious weather has meant that the children have spent the majority of their time playing outside.  Long may it last!

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

  • There has been lots of tidying, sorting and cleaning in the garden, a task made so much easier with the help of the children. We are going to use their ideas and suggestions to make a few changes/improvements to our outside space as this is such an important area to support their learning and development.
  • Outside dining has been a daily occurrence for afternoon snack this week, as requested by the children. The children enjoy getting the opportunity to sit together with their friends and have their drink and fruit “picnic” style.
  • There has been lots of building happening this week. The ‘Duplo’ was taken outside and together the children have been building bigger and more imaginative models in a more open space.  We also introduced ‘Giant Polydron’ which some children haven’t seen before. With some assistance from adults and other children we have seen some amazing structures, a dolls house, a space helmet, rockets and some models were even double the height of the children.

Other news:

In-service day and May Day holiday day

Please remember next week there is an In-service day on Friday 30th April and the May Day holiday on Monday 3rd May.

Sun hats and sun cream.

We would be grateful if you can make sure that your child brings a sun hat with them to nursery.  Also, we strongly recommend that you apply sun cream to your child before arriving at nursery and that they bring in sun cream so we can assist them to apply it during the day if necessary.   It would be helpful if theses item could stay at nursery, we will keep them in a box for the children to access during the day.

Outdoor clothing

We are spending a lot of time in the garden, which at the moment is dry and dusty.  As it is too warm to wear waterproof trousers please make sure that your child wears clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.  ‘Mud mountain’ has got the better of a few items of clothing this week; it’s very hard for the children to resist the opportunities it offers.

Lunches

When ordering lunches please can you remember to only order a hot meal option for your child.  This decision has been made by Scottish Borders Council.

Snack money

Please continue to make snack payments of 50p per child per day via ParentPay.  If you are having any problem with this please speak to a member of staff.

Illness

Aware of the rise in Covid cases nationally, we are continuing to be vigilant to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance, which can be found here. Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

Have a lovely weekend!

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team
