Nursery bulletin: Friday 26th February 2021

Dear nursery families,

We are amazed and delighted with the way that the children have settled into nursery this week.  After being away for what seemed to us like a lifetime the children adapted quickly to the slight changes to the nursery routine and are happy, enthusiastic and a credit to you all.

Staying vigilant is so important

Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our children, our staff and you as families is our number one priority right now. Please help us by:

1) Following the ‘4 steps for being safe on the school run’;

  • Adults must wear a face covering at drop off / pick up.
  • Stick to one adult at drop off / pick up.
  • Adults keep 2 metres apart.
  • Avoid car sharing.

2) Being vigilant about COVID-19 symptoms; self-isolate if required and follow NHS ‘Test and Protect’ advice. Please phone the school to let us know if a member of your household tests positive.

3) Reporting a child’s positive test result immediately either by phoning the school (if during office hours) or using our new ‘positive test’ form.

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

Our main focus this week was to settle the children back into nursery life, they have particularly enjoyed:

  • Rediscovering the outside spaces, some children made an obstacle course out of the A-frames and loose parts and continued to add to it throughout the day.
  • The wild animals have sparked the imagination of many. As they played together discussions were had about what the animals liked to eat and the children made food from tissue paper.
  • New materials have been added to the construction areas (foam bricks and foam rocks) which the children noticed immediately. They have been making fantastic models, some covering the whole area, working as a team, sharing ideas and communicating well to get the design just right.
  • The children have even noticed signs of spring in the garden and have been looking after the daffodil bulbs.

Other important news

Nursery Facebook page

Even though we are back in nursery we will still be using the Facebook page as a way of staying in touch.  This is a private page only for parents of nursery children, if you are not already a member please join.

Parent Postcards

These will be coming out at the beginning of next week so please check your child’s bag.  These form part of your child’s learning journey and we really value your opinion so we can work together to enhance your child’s experiences both at home and at Nursery.

Parentpay

We would be really grateful if you could order your child’s lunches through ParentPay. Please be aware that Scottish Borders Council have made the decision that nursery children are to have a hot meal whilst in the setting so this means the soup and sandwich option Monday to Thursday and sandwiches on a Friday is no longer available.

Please can you also use Parentpay to make snack payments of 50p per child per day.  If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to speak to a member of staff.

Staff

Some of you may have noticed that we are missing some members of our usual staff team short. We are very excited to tell you that both Miss McHarg and Mrs Pearson are expecting babies in May and July respectively.  They are both keeping well and staying safe working from home.  Meanwhile, Mrs Mitchell will be working from home to ensure she stays safe and well during this current lockdown.

In their absence, Mrs Morrison and Mrs Little joining have joined us as cover.

Love from The Nursery Team
