Happy Friday everyone! Here’s this week’s news…
Curriculum overviews – find out what learning is planned for this term
Please take a moment to read over the curriculum overview for your child’s class. These brief documents give you a really good summary of what your child will be learning about between now and Christmas. This link gives a list of all the overviews: just scroll down to find the one for your child. http://wp.me/p6TCck-15U
Scholastic Book Club – great books, low prices (Christmas presents?)
Our new Scholastic Book Club is up and running! Your child should have brought home a leaflet today showing a selection of the books available. There are many, many more online. Go to https://schools.scholastic.co.uk/edenside/digital-book-club to browse the latest books and order online. For every £1 you spend on this month’s Book Club, our school will earn 20p in Scholastic Rewards.
Please place your order online by November 27th, 2020. Please note, orders cannot be processed in school, only online.
Remembrance Day – lest we forget
Next week, all classes will spend some time learning and talking Remembrance Day (in an age-appropriate way). We believe it is very important for our children to have an understanding of the commitment, service and sacrifice made by so many, both in the past and now. We will remember them.
Farewell Mrs Moutter – a new adventure awaits
It is with sadness that we are bidding farewell to Mrs Moutter who is leaving Edenside to take up an exciting teaching post on her home island of Arran. We wish her all the very best.
Miss Pike will take over full-time teaching responsibility for the P4/5 class, starting on Monday 16th November.
In-service days – school closed to pupils
NEXT Thursday 12th and Friday 13th, school will be closed to pupils for staff training days. Every year, all schools across Scotland provide 5 such days. Next week, Team Edenside will be completing training on ‘nurture principles’ and continuing our Maths developments.
Nits and head lice – a common nuisance with a simple solution
Every now and then, we need to remind families of the reality of head lice! These are a nuisance but we strongly encourage you to take the time to check your child’s hair for these little critters regularly. Useful advice can be found on the NHS Inform website.
NSPCC in schools – important input for all children
I am pleased to tell you that this term we will be participating in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. online programme. This consists of an online assembly and supporting classroom based activities. Speak out. Stay safe. is a safeguarding programme available to all primary schools in the UK. It aims to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to recognise the signs of abuse in a child friendly, interactive way. Children are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a trusted adult or Childline. You can find more information on the NSPCC website www.nspcc.org.uk/speakout
