Here is your weekly bulletin with updates and helpful information.
Family phone calls – book your slot now
You should have received an email yesterday (Thursday) providing details about how to book a phone appointment with your child’s class teacher. If you didn’t get the email or if you’re having any technical issues, please get in touch with us and we’ll get you sorted.
Maths Week Scotland – learning for the whole family
Next week, we are taking part in Maths Week Scotland; a celebration of the importance of maths in our everyday lives. Over the course of the week, children will be discovering that “maths is all around us” (think Wet, Wet, Wet!). Look out for Facebook updates on each class page. We’d love for you all to get involved!
Explorers ‘dress up’ day – Friday 9th October
To mark the end of this term’s ‘What’s out there?’ BIG question, we’d love the children to come to school dressed up! They could come dressed as an explorer or as someone from another country – it doesn’t matter, it’s just for fun. As ever with our dress up days, please do NOT purchase any special costumes – it’s amazing what you can do with an old pillow case and felt tips! If you’d like any help, just get in touch.
We’re heading back to the 1970s – can you help us?
In November, Edenside will be celebrating its 50th birthday! We thought this would be a great opportunity for the whole school to find out about life in the 70s, to compare life now and then. We’ll be hosting a big birthday party too. If you or any of your family have any photos or memoirs from life in the 70s, we’d love to see them / hear about it. Just get in touch.
Coats / Socks / Shoes – please send them to school
We continue to be very fortunate with the September weather but it can still be unpredictable. We want the children to be outside as much as possible at break time (and other times) but they MUST have a waterproof coat. A pair of dry socks and indoor shoes might be helpful too in the event of damp feet! Please label all items too; it makes it a lot easier to return stray items.
Plan B – it’s just in case
As per the emails sent out at the start of this week, all SBC schools have been asked to plan for the possible event of ‘Plan B’. We are not needing to introduce this now but we do need to have a clear plan ready. In the event of Plan B, Edenside would be open to pupils for 4 days (Mon – Thurs). Our P1 – 3 children will be in school for all 4 days whilst our nursery and P4-7 children will be in school for 2 day and at home for 2 days. Further details will be shared should it become necessary but fingers crossed we can continue with Plan A!
Staying vigilant
It is clear that the threat of COVID-19 remains significant and we must not lose focus on that. This requires ever present vigilance and it is vital that nobody attends school or uses school transport if they are displaying any symptoms. Our best chance of keeping our education settings COVID-free is by keeping it out in the first instance.
Young people and staff members must not attend if they or any household member are showing symptoms of COVID-19, such as new persistent cough, temperature and/or loss or change in ability to taste or smell.
The person should seek a COVID-19 test as soon as possible. This can be done via the government portal www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test. In line with national guidance, until the test results are received the person and members of their household should self-isolate.
