P1-7 bulletin: Friday 17th December 2021

What a crazy Christmas week we’ve had…

  • On Monday, Mr Bewsey set classes the challenge to create this tear’s Edenside Show. Each class was given a song from the pantomime ‘Cinderella & Rockefella’ and they had to learn the song, create a routine to accompany the song and then record a video of the song. No small task. Everyone’s contributions, alongside our P7 stars, will come together to provide our children and families with Edenside’s Christmas Show 2021. This will be shared with families on Tuesday 21st December via a private YouTube link.
  • On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, all classes enjoyed their Christmas parties. Our new PE teacher, Mr Sutton, came into his own, hosting all the parties, providing party games and dances. Classes then enjoyed party food together back in their classrooms.
  • On Friday, the whole school (split into 2 groups), enjoyed a truly wonderful Nativity church service at Kelso North church. The children heard the Nativity story from Reverent Rodwell and sang some traditional carols accompanied by Mr Bewsey on his guitar. It was a very COVID-safe event, with space between classes and a seats disinfected between each of the 2 services. Special thanks to the church team for hosting us.
  • As well as all this, the classes have been making Christmas cards to send to three local care homes; Grove House, Queens House and the Day Hospital. We hope these cards bring a smile to the faces of the residents of these homes.

Next week, as long as COVID updates allow…

  • On Monday, the whole school will be enjoying an online pantomime, provided by our amazing Parent Council. The show, Cinderella, has been created by he well-known Peter Duncan (of Blue Peter fame). We enjoyed last year’s ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ so are looking forward to this year’s offering.
  • On Tuesday, we will be enjoying our Christmas lunch. This annual feast is always a highlight of the festive season. Please ensure you order for your child using ParentPay.
  • On Wednesday, we’re heading down to Kelso Town centre to sing some carols around the Christmas tree. We are confident this is a safe activity, as it it outdoors, in class bubbles who are together all day anyway.
  • On Thursday, the last day of school, the children will enjoy time together with their classmates before a final assembly at 2pm where the Parent Council 50/50 prize draw will take place, live! Tune in on the school Facebook page to find out who’s one this year!

Other news

  • School staff: Very sadly, we are missing 2 of our long-term Team Edensiders due to ill health (although not COVID related). Both Mrs McLear and Mrs Murray have not and will not be in school for some time. I’m sure you’ll join me is wishing them both a speedy recovery.
  • P5 meals: In January, from January 3rd, the Scottish Government is extending school meal provision to include Primary 5 as well as nursery, P1, P2, P3 and P4. This means, from January, all Primary 5 children can order a school lunch, paid for by the Scottish Government. For the start of the new term, please ensure all dinners are ordered using ParentPay but NOT until after 3rd January or you will be charged.

COVID update

The new Omicron variant continues to cause concern. As a school, we are working hard to provide a safe place for our children to enjoy the last few days of term. We ask for your continued vigilance in following the most recent COVID-19 guidance, the latest of which can be found here. Thank you for your support. #InThisTogether
