Nursery bulletin: Friday 17th September 2021

Dear families,

We have had an active week at nursery, spending lots of time outside in our garden and at the secret garden.

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

A major highlight for the children was spotting a prickly visitor to the garden.  The children were fascinated to see it so close up and the learning that has stemmed from the sighting is astounding. The children were talking about nocturnal animals and wondering why the hedgehog was out in the daytime? What food they eat and what it means to go into hibernation.  Your children are leading their learning and it is such a privilege to be able to support them and help them answer their questions.  This continued the next morning when the children were asking if it was ok, so they went on a hedgehog hunt to make sure it was in a safe place.

The children have begun to brush their teeth after morning snack, it is great to hear them sharing important facts about tooth brushing that they picked up from Shirley and Tracey who visited from ChildSmile.

Block corner has been a popular play space this week.  Some children have started to use pictures from books to give them ideas about what to build and how to build it.  We have had play parks with slides and swings and an airport with a runway and parking.

The return of Dinky Bear has caused great excitement.  We have two Dinky Bears who will be coming home each week with different children; we use the bears to encourage the children to be responsible.  We are surprised at the positive impact that they have had so far, the children are looking after each other, making sure the toys are picked up and tidied away and following the rules in the secret garden and in nursery.

Daily snack:

The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.

Other news:

Lunches

If you are ordering a school lunch can you order your child’s lunch through ParentPay, please note you are only able to order the hot meal choices not the sandwich option.  If you are having problems with the App please speak to a member of staff.

Requests

We are following the Scottish Government Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme and promoting healthy choices and would appreciate your support by making sure that if your child brings a bottle to nursery that is has water in rather than juice.

Wellies

We would be grateful if you could supply your child with a pair of wellies that can stay at nursery.  Thanks to those who have already done so.  We have waterproof trousers and jackets for all of the children to make sure they can access the outdoor spaces whatever the weather but your child will require a pair of boots.

Illness

We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

Have a lovely weekend!

Love from,

The Nursery Team
