How has it already been 2 weeks?! We’ve had another incredibly busy, learning-packed week, albeit also trying to minimise the impact of COVID that has made itself known in a number of our classes this week. The mitigations and back-up plans we have in place seem to be working to keep school ‘working’ and the vast majority of pupils learning.
Positive COVID-19 cases update
If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please inform the school as soon as possible, either by phone or email.
Under the latest guidance, only the person who tests positive needs to stay at home. This means siblings of a positive case do not need to isolate. Similarly, children of a positive parent do not need to isolate. However, we do understand any parental choice to keep family members at home in the event of a positive case so please get in touch to discuss your individual circumstances.
If anyone in the school (child or adult) tests positive, we will inform affected ‘bubbles’ by GroupCall email. Under the latest guidance, all in-school contact is deemed as low risk meaning there is no need to isolate unless contacted directly by Test & Protect.
Home learning support is available for any child who tests positive and needs to stay off school. Click here for full details. This support is an offer and needs only be completed if the child is well enough and can be supported at home to complete the tasks.
Please be assured we are working really hard to keep everyone safe and to keep learning happening.
Other important updates
Burns Lunch: The annual Rabbie Burns lunch will be hosted by our canteen and P7s on TUESDAY 25th. We will enjoy a variety of traditional Burns related entertainment. Please use ParentPay to order your child’s Burns-themed lunch.
Parent Council meeting: No more Zoom! What are you doing on the evening of Thursday 3rd February? At 6pm? If you’re free, you’re more than welcome to come along to the Hoot and Cat cafe and join the first Parent Council meeting of 2022. (Please observe all COVID safety rules in place at the time.)
School starts at 9: Almost all of our children always arrive promptly for a 9am start. However, we do have some stragglers and this impacts class learning. Please ensure you get your child to school in plenty of time for our 9am start.
PE kits: Every child should come to school with a PE kit, ideally at the start of the week. Wearing different clothes for PE is important, for safety and for hygiene. We do have some spare kit in school but most children don’t like to use it!
Health & Wellbeing this term – Building Resilience using Skipper’s Toolkit
The main focus of this unit is on the importance of recognising and valuing ourselves as individuals. People who respect themselves, like themselves. They have a core set of moral values that are not based on what they can or can’t do, or in comparing themselves to others. Nobody’s perfect – but learning to accept ourselves, warts-and-all, identifying our strengths and looking after ourselves and our bodies increases our enjoyment of life and wellbeing. Research is clear that looking after our body is also of paramount importance for our health. Good sleep, nutrition and exercise have all been correlated with better mental and physical health outcomes.
