Nursery bulletin: Friday 21st January 2022

Dear nursery families,

We have had a wonderful week of outdoor play, making the most of the mild weather out in the fresh air.

ELC today

Highlights from this week:

We have had two great trips to the Secret Garden this week.  In amougst the dry brown leaves and twigs, the children discovered the green snowdrops and wild garlic starting to grow and small buds on some of the branches.  The older children enjoyed sharing the Secret Garden rules with our new starts and showing them around the garden and all of the opportunities for play it offers. The children were very grateful to come back from their chilly adventures to a delicious snack and hot chocolate.

The children asked for paint outside this week so we made a creative space outside where they could mark make using paint, pens and coloured pencils.  They had to do a bit of problem solving because the wind was blowing their pictures away, they decided to use large stones on the corners of the paper to keep it in place.

Mud mountain has been really popular,  the children have been practising their climbing, running, rolling and jumping skills.

We have been talking about winter and cold places.  In the water tray the children have been playing with Arctic and Antarctic animals and real ice(bergs).  It has been wonderful listening to the children describing what it feels like – freezing, wet, slippy, hard and they have also been talking about freezing and melting/thawing.  In the garden today the children found some ‘real’ ice in the wheelbarrow and were intrigued with how it felt and how it cracked and broke when they dropped it.

Daily snack:

The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.

Notes

Keeping Warm

Please make sure your child brings a hat and gloves to wear at nursery.  We try our hardest to make sure they get sent home, but we’d be grateful if you could make sure all items are labelled to make this job easier.

Staying safe

With the number of Covid cases rising within the school community it is important to do a Lateral Flow Test on your child if they display any Covid-19 symptoms before bringing them into Nursery.

Illness

We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.  If your child is unwell/going to be absent from nursery please notify the school via telephone (01573 224264) or send a message through the Expressions App.

Have a lovely weekend!

Love from,

The Nursery Team
