Nursery bulletin: Friday 5th November 2021

Dear families,

We’re not quite sure how we have managed to get to November so quickly but we have done so much learning on the way.

Highlights from this week:

This week we have had a lot of children off nursery, so our two year olds have spent most of the week exploring the main room and playing and learning with all of the children and staff.  We hope that all the children who haven’t been at nursery this week make a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing them soon.

The children have had the opportunity to bake this week and have made chocolate chip cookies and apple muffins.  We have already had a request for cheese and pumpkin muffins  next week so our bakers are beginning to get creative.

Our two outings to the secret garden and daily opportunities to play in the nursery garden have given the children time and space to use their gross motor skills to run, jump, climb and balance.

The garden also enabled us to develop our maths skills.  When playing with the giant dominoes the children were looking at the dot patterns and identifying the number by counting the spots or through visual recognition.  The children were supporting each other to match their dominoes to the ones placed and they learned to ‘chap’ the pallet to signal they couldn’t go.  It was wonderful to see so many children involved in the game and how they took turns and helped each other interpret the dots. Some children even used the dominoes to add numbers “I’ve got 5 dots, look 2 dots and 3 dots.”

Some children have been telling staff that they are going to see fireworks on Friday.  We listened to a story and spoke about fire safety and the children eagerly shared their knowledge with us about how to keep safe around fires.  The children also asked to make firework pictures using colourful paint and glitter and are proudly displayed in the nursery.

Daily snack:

The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.

Notes

P1 enrolment will take place between 15th and 19th of November, we will be in touch nearer the time with more details.

Keeping Cosy

Please can I remind you that the children have access to the garden and secret garden in all weather.  We would be grateful if you could make sure your child brings in a hat and gloves with their name clearly marked.

Illness

We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

If your child is unwell/going to be absent from nursery please notify the school via telephone (01573 224264) or send a message through the Expressions App.

Have a lovely weekend!

Love from the Nursery Team
