Nursery bulletin: Friday 1st October 2021

Dear families,

We have had a wonderful week of non-stop learning.  Maths Week has provided new opportunities for the children alongside all of their other activities.

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

The children have been looking through their Learning Journals and reflecting upon activities that they have done since being at nursery.  One child asked to make a  hedgehog like the one in her ‘special folder’ and this inspired others to have a go too.  The activity helped us support the children’s cutting skills, by modelling how to hold the scissors correctly, using  their preferred hand, or ‘doing hand’ and advising them how to move the paper around with their ‘helping hand’.  They proudly stuck their amazing efforts into their Learning Journal.

We have seen the children use their imaginations to make fantastic models with the magnetic polydron.  This is a firm favourite with children and staff.  This week the children have been really engaged and the models they have made have been fantastic.  Two children playing together used exactly the same pieces and one child created a trampoline and the other child made either a sunshine or a flower.  There have been conversations about angles, shapes and how to share and compromise.

Before our trip to the Secret Garden the children enjoyed being able to used the Trim Track in the field, they were balancing, swinging, climbing and helping each other.  We have already been asked if they can go again before the Secret Garden next week.

Maths Week has been fantastic.  We have loved seeing the children getting excited about the activities provided and being completely absorbed.  The conversations we have had and the resources we have used have helped the children learn about size, quantities, shape, pattern and numerals.  It has been wonderful to see children independently providing activities for their friends to help and encourage them when they need it.

Daily snack:

The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.

There are still a couple of children who are missing their nursery jumpers.  Please can you check all your jumpers to make sure they haven’t accidently gone to the wrong home.  The missing jumpers are named.

As the weather is getting cooler please can you make sure your child is dressed according to the weather, especially on days they go to the Secret Garden (currently Monday and Wednesday) and that hats and gloves are labelled.
