Dear families,
This week there have been a lot of conversations and observations made about the changes outside in the garden and at the secret garden. Autumn is such an exciting time of year.
Highlights from this week:
It’s amazing how much the children learn by asking a question. Why are the leaves yellow? This question was asked this week and it has led to wonderful discussions about Autumn and the seasons, changes in the weather and the beautiful colours we see and why the leaves change and fall off. The children went for a walk and collected autumnal objects, when we returned the children were keen to look at what they found and began to sort it by colour, then others sorted things by size. The children were keen to add leaves to their art work and have requested that more are added to the art area next week. The children are full of curiosity, creativity and love to explore.
The digging area has been a hive of activity, the children are enjoying having the mud kitchen and the digging area next to each other. They are using different gardening tools and kitchen utensils to dig and break up the soil and fill buckets and pans to transport it to the kitchen to make delicious food such as “yummy cakes”. It has been wonderful watching the children working together and being experimental in the kitchen.
We have noticed that the children at Edenside nursery are really looking after each other. If children are upset or hurt they are keen to offer support or seek out an adult. Our children are remembering what their friends need to make them better and are really keen to help. When our two year olds come and play in the afternoon, we are seeing children making sure they are happy, included and safe. Our children are already developing the skills they need to able to empathise, they are modelling the actions of adults and other children and it is wonderful to see.
Daily snack:
The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.
Other news:
Nursery Jumpers
There are a couple of children who are missing their nursery jumpers. We have searched the nursery and haven’t been able to locate them so it would be helpful if you could check all your jumpers to make sure they haven’t accidently gone to the wrong home. The missing jumpers are named.
Personal Plans
Hopefully you will have received your child’s personal plan, we really appreciate the information you have to share and would be grateful if you could return the completed forms by Monday 27th September.
Lunches
Apologies for any issue you might have had when trying to order a school lunch through Parentpay this week. We hope that it was an isolated problem but if this does occur again, we can order your child’s lunch on the day, just let a member of staff know at drop off.
Requests
Please can we remind you that we are following the Scottish Government Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme and promoting healthy choices and would appreciate your support by making sure that if your child brings a water bottle to nursery that is has water in rather than juice.
Illness
We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance. Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.
If your child is unwell/going to be absent from nursery please notify the school via telephone (01573 224264) or send a message through the Expressions App.
Have a lovely weekend!
Love from,
The Nursery Team
