Nursery bulletin: Friday 14th May 2021

Dear families,

It’s been another week of outdoor activities at Edenside Nursery.  Wellies on, waterproofs on and off they go!

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

  • The rain has inspired lots of learning this week. The children were experimenting with the loose part to see what they could use to get from one side of a big puddle to the other.  They worked together to design, carry and arrange the parts so they didn’t get their feet wet – well that was the idea until they realised how much fun it was to jump in it!
  • The children have been using different equipment in the garden to transport the water. They used buckets, scoops, watering cans and even cupped hands when the levels were low.  We were encouraging the children to think about volume and full and empty with questions like:  how many scoops would fill the bucket, which object holds the most water, and is your bucket full?
  • Some children have been helping to pot plants to brighten up the garden and have been remembering to water them daily. Others have been planting sunflower seeds and will be watching to see how quickly they sprout and will be using rulers and tapes to measure how big they grow.
  • The children have had fun at the secret garden this week. They have been creating interesting dishes in the mud kitchen, some have been mark making and attempting to write their names on the paths with sticks, others were playing hide and seek.  Mrs Feeney rescued a baby blue tit whose leg was caught in twine and afterwards the children decided to collect all the rubbish in the garden to look after the environment. Well done boys and girls.

Snacks next week:   Fruit and vegetable sticks are always available with morning snack.

Other news:

Mrs Smithson

As mentioned in our bulletin on 29th April, Mrs Smithson will be leaving Edenside to start a new job, we will be bidding her farewell and wishing her lots of luck in her new post on Thursday 27th May.  All of her key children will be allocated to another member of staff for the last three and a half weeks of term and we will notify these parents individually.

Transition to P1

If your child is starting Primary 1 in August you will have begun to receive information via email from the school.  As your child might have already told you we are taking the Pre-school children into the nurture room in small groups to begin to introduce them to some of the activities they will be doing and to show them how their morning might be structured in Primary 1.  Please look out for further transition information and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with a member of the team.

Your voice matters

This year has been like no other and, as a nursery, we are keen to learn lessons from the dramatic changes we have had to make to our school day and daily learning. As families, your insights and opinions are valued; you know your children better than we do and you know what they tell you when they get home. So, if you can spare 5 minutes, we’d really appreciate your answers to just 2 questions; What’s gone well this year? What would make next year better? Follow this link to a quick survey > https://forms.office.com/r/T0wL221eXj . Thank you in advance for helping us ‘be the best we can be’.

Toothbrushing

This week the children started brushing their teeth after lunch at nursery.  They have adapted well to the slight changes we have had to make to our brushing routine, in line with COVID-19 Interim Childsmile Toothbrushing Standards.  We are really pleased to be offering this again.

Snack money

Please continue to make snack payments of 50p per child per day via ParentPay.  If you are having any problem with this please speak to a member of staff.

Illness

Aware of the rise in Covid cases nationally, we are continuing to be vigilant to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

Have a lovely weekend!

Love from,

The Nursery Team
