Dear nursery families,
It’s hard to believe that this is the last bulletin of April 2022, a quarter of the year has passed already.
Highlights from this week:
During our visits to the Secret Garden this week the children have been involved in lots of activities, jumping and landing with two feet seemed to be very popular. There are plenty of objects of varying heights for the children to practice on, some needed a little support initially but with encouragement and practice they were doing it independently and with confidence but the end of their adventures.
The Secret Garden also offers a calm space for children to enjoy a story or two. When the preschool children went on Thursday they were re-enacting the Gruffalo using storey spoons and even made dens for it to live in.
Some of the children were involved in constructing their own den, made from our parachute in the nursery garden too. They helped to attach it to the fence and used the wooden frame and stumps to support it (with a little adult help).
The children have been keen to play games this week, one of their favourites has been the Bumble Bee game (the same concept as Kerplunk). They have been learning how to set the game up and it’s rules. They were also practising turn taking, number skills, including counting, estimating and simple addition and their children communication skills.
The children have been busy in the art area this week. Their pictures, whether drawn, printed, painted or a collage are full of imagination, creativity and detail. Some children designed and made some sunglasses which involved, cutting, sticking, drawing and a little bit of problem solving to help them stay on.
Daily snack:
The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.
Notes
May holiday
Please remember nursery is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We’re back again on Wednesday 4th.
Transition
This week we started our P1 transition time in ‘the cabin’. The children are practicing their emerging literacy skill with activities to strengthen their finger and hand muscles. They have been sharing break time with the P1’s (eating snack as they play) and then returning to complete activities to support their maths and number skills. This weeks story has been the Gruffalo, they have enjoyed looking at the story in detail, sequencing events, watching a song version on the smart board, using story spoons to retell it, and then building dens for a Gruffalo in the Secret Garden. Please have a look at the photos on our Facebook page.
Collection
We would be really grateful if you could line up by the low wall when collecting your child from the nursery door. This helps staff to identify who is ‘next’ and also allows staff opportunity to talk to you if required.
Illness
We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance. Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe. If your child is unwell/going to be absent from nursery please notify the school via telephone (01573 224264) or send a message through the Expressions App.
Have a lovely long weekend! J
Kind regards,
The Nursery Team
