Towards the end of each school year, new classes for the following year are arranged, as per the Scottish Borders Council ‘class composition’ policy. Class compositions can change from year to year depending on the school roll, allocated teacher numbers and permitted class size.
Once new classes are arranged, children and families will be informed about new classes. This is then followed by a ‘move-up’ session, where all children get to spend time with their new teacher and class mates in their new classroom.
To support this transition, class teachers prepare and share ‘handover’ documents that contain all the important information about each child to ensure their needs continue to be met year on year.
Enhanced transitions are facilitated for those who may find the changes of moving room and teacher more of a challenge than others.
