P1-7 bulletin: Friday 1st April 2022

We’ve come to the end of another school term. There’s no denying that it has been a challenge, with so many staff (and children) absent due to COVID. We are hopeful that the new term brings some relief from the pressure but, whatever happens, the staff and children of Edenside will continue to learn, laugh and love together. Have a enjoyable Spring holiday and we’ll see you in 2 weeks.

What’s been going on in class this week?

Our P7 Roving Reporters have some highlights of the week to share…

  • P1P learnt the X and Q Sound and were also learning about Easter
  • P1/2W did directions with ‘Spheros’ and also learnt about Easter
  • P2S learnt about the story of Easter and Easter Sunday
  • P3DF painted cherry blossom 🌸 in vases
  • P3/4C did Holi splatter paint art🎨  and created a colourful bonfire 🔥
  • P4/5W enjoyed netball in P.E ⚽️
  • P5M liked their house competition
  • P5/6M found out about French April fools
  • P6BB really liked the run against Broomlands
  • P6/7D loved drawing daffodils and learning about Passover
  • P7W liked running against Broomlands and making a tree swing in the secret garden.

Love for Ukraine

As we shared on Facebook last week, Edenside pupils and families raised an incredible £1179.84 for the Ukrainian Disaster Appeal. Whilst this is tremendous, the main focus must be on the children and families in or fleeing Ukraine – our thoughts and prayers continue to be with you!

Congratulations Edenside team

On Monday, our P7 netball were victorious in the Kelso schools competition. They enjoyed a super afternoon of netball against our local primary schools, playing with skill and enthusiasm. Team Edenside came out on top, causing much celebration.

On Tuesday, our P6s and P7s competed in the first Edenside / Broomlands cross country race. Hosted by Broomlands, all pupils took part in either the P6 boys, P6 girls, P7 boys or P7 girls race. Medal winners for Edenside were Jack, Brodie, James, Tamzin, Ellison, Chris, Freya and Zoe. After totalling all race points, Edenside were pronounced overall winners too.

A great week of sport for Edenside. Well done everyone.

Spring Celebration

We finished this term with a church service at Kelso North church. It was wonderful to join together and sing some well-loved songs, led by Mr Bewsey on his guitar. Each class then shared a brief presentation about what they’ve learnt in answer to this BIG question, ‘How do people celebrate new beginnings?’. Thank you to Reverend Rodwell and the church team for hosting us in such a magnificent building.

Staff news

After 10 years as a teacher here at Edenside, Mrs Brown has decided it is time for a change. She has accepted a teaching position at Newtown Primary School and will leave us at the end of April. Mrs Brown has taught a lot of children over the years, including the older siblings of many of our current children. We wish her all the best for her future. For the final term, Mrs Burton will be covering Mrs Brown’s class time, delivering core French to each class.

P7 final term

When we return after the holidays, the countdown will begin for our Primary 7 cohort. There will be much discussion about High School, with a full programme of activities and visitors to support the transition. The 2022 Leavers Hoodies will be in school in the first week of term which our Ps can wear during their last term. More details and dates will be shared in due course.
