Nursery bulletin: Friday 25th February 2022

Dear nursery families,

We have had four seasons in one week but nothing stops the experiences and learning of the nursery children.

Highlights from this week:

bulletin 25.2

The main highlight of this week has been Thursday’s snowfall.  Even though there wasn’t a large amount and it didn’t last long, it was there long enough for the majority of children to really explore the cold substance through their senses.  The children were able to talk about what it felt like in their hands, what it looked like when it was falling, the sound their wellies made when they stepped on it and a few children spoke about what it tasted like when it fell on their tongues!

Our favourite story this week has been ‘Christopher Nibble’ by Charlotte Middleton.  This story is about a guinea pig who loves to eat dandelions and when the world runs out of dandelions he manages to grow them and return them to his town.  The children were really drawn in by the story and were keen to see what guinea pigs ‘really look like’, as Christopher was just an illustration in a book.  We looked at clips on the Smartboard so children could see different varieties and listen to the noises they make.

With this week’s snow and rainfall, the garden has become a very different play space.  Our digging area has become very popular with its deep muddy puddles, the mud kitchen has been open and serving a variety of delicious watery concoctions and best of all mud mountain is a now a slippery slide.  It has definitely been great fun and getting as muddy as possible was high on the agenda, we are just very thankful that the children wear waterproofs.

Inside the nursery the children have been really creative with the mosaic tiles. It has been wonderful to see how the children take time to select the correct shape needed for their design.  Some were making patterns which they repeated, others were using the shapes to make a picture.  The children had been talking about the daffodils growing in our garden and decided to make spring flowers out of the shapes.

Daily snack:

The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.
