Dear families,
Even though we haven’t fully launched into the festive swing, it’s definitely starting to feel a little Christmassy in the nursery this week.
Highlights from this week:
The children have been constructing amazing models out of the magnetic blocks and Lego this week. We have enjoyed listening to the children sharing their ideas with staff and their friends whilst creating and showing their models. The children have been sharing, problem solving and colour sorting the bricks when tidying up.
After watching the children’s engagement and creativity when building models we developed a recycling model station so the children could create/invent something to take home and share with their families, rather than tidy away at the end of the day. We would be really grateful for donations of empty boxes, cardboard tubes and bottles etc to keep this area fully stocked.
The children have been involved in a variety of ‘finger gym’ activities this week to strengthen the muscles in their fingers and develop their fine motor skills. A particular favourite has been ‘tap-a-shape’. The children were designing pictures using small wooden shapes and then secured them on a cork board using a small pin and a hammer. This required concentration and perseverance.
The children have been talking about the cold weather and were playing with the ice that had formed in the garden again this week. Some children were talking about snow, how it felt and about what you needed to wear to keep warm. The children made snowflakes out of paper straws and decorated them with wintery sprinkles.
Daily snack:
The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.
Notes
A big thank you
We would like to send a huge thank you to The Christmas Tree Barn for delivering the biggest ‘highlight of the week’. The children were so excited to find the tree it in the nursery when they came back from lunch and with great enthusiasm and team work it was decorated in no time. They even got to hang their handmade decorations.
Christmas Party
This year’s nursery Christmas party will be held on the morning of Thursday 16th December. If your child doesn’t usually attend on a Thursday please bring them in at 8.50 and they can be collected at 11.50. If you would rather your child didn’t wear their party clothes all day, please send in a change of clothes and inform a member of staff.
Keeping Cosy
Please make sure your child brings a hat and gloves to wear at nursery. We try our hardest to make sure they get sent home but we’d be grateful if you could make sure all items are labelled to make this job easier.
Illness
We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance. Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe. If your child is unwell/going to be absent from nursery please notify the school via telephone (01573 224264) or send a message through the Expressions App.
Have a lovely weekend!
Love from The Nursery Team
