Happy Friday everyone. It’s been a very wet end to the week but that’s not stopped our Edenside Learners with their learning. So much deep thinking, rich discussion and continuation of ‘the basics’.
Our Facebook feed keeps you in the know
If you’re not already following us on Facebook or if you don’t use Facebook, you can still keep up to date with our daily updates and announcements by looking at our website Facebook feed (no account needed). Why not take a peek?
Halloween fun
Instead of our usual weekly assembly, today our children enjoyed a class Halloween activity. Every class enjoyed something ‘Halloweeney’ with our P1s and P7s ‘buddying up’ for the session. However, not every child likes Halloween so we provided a fun alternative for these. For all those taking part in Halloween activities or events over the weekend, have fun but please be safe!
Poppy Appeal – available from next week
We are proud to support the Scottish Poppy Appeal that raises funds to support ex-service personnel and their families. Poppies will be on sale next week and our P7 Fundraising Team will visit classes on a daily basis to sell poppies and collect donations. Thank you in advance for your support of this incredibly important charity. Lest we forget.
P3/4C and P4/5W family phone calls – a reminder
Following Miss Cowan and Mr Wood’s absence before the October break, new dates have been arranged for phone calls with parents and carers. Mr Wood will be making contact on Tuesday (2nd) afternoon/evening and Miss Cowan will be in touch on the afternoon of Monday 1st and Tuesday 2nd. If you haven’t booked a new time slot already, please get in touch with us at school before Tuesday.
Flu vaccination – a date for your diary
A wee reminder that the flu vaccination for our children will be on Thursday 11th November. The flu vaccination team will be in school for the day, delivering the nasal spray to all those who have returned consent forms.
Staff news
We are delighted to welcome three new faces to Team Edenside; Miss Hutchison and Mrs Little join our Pupil Support team, helping children in the classroom and at playtimes while Mrs Liddle joins our nursery team.
P1 enrolment – look out for details
Please let friends and family members know that anyone who wants their child to attend P1 at Edenside NEXT August needs to apply during the upcoming enrolment, taking place between 15th and 19th November. The enrolment process is all online and further details will be shared soon. Enrolment for nursery is likely to be in the new year.
No school bell? What?
Since we returned to school after the October break, the children have not heard the bell ringing during the day. We decided to remove this ‘old fashioned’ timer because it was a loud noise that interrupted a calm school every hour or so. Many of our children did not like the noise either. In its place, our teachers and children simply look at the clock and know when it’s time for break or lunch or home; simple! And what a difference it has made! No more Victorian workhouse bell system for us!
