Nursery bulletin: Friday 4th March 2022

Dear nursery families,

What a quick week!  The children have showed great team work and support this week through all kinds of activities and play.

Highlights from this week:

We have had two wonderful visits to the Secret Garden this week.  The children are really noticing changes every visit.  The plants are growing and making the floor green again, the birds are noisily singing and buds are developing on the shrubs and trees.  The children were developing their gross motor skills climbing, jumping, running and balancing. They were playing hide and seek and practised their counting skills, some counting 1-10 others trying 1-20.

The nursery garden has provided lots of (messy) activities for the children to get involved in.  We had a team of painters one afternoon, who used a mixture of water from the water tray and puddle water to decorate the wooden equipment in the garden.  They have been walking up planks positioned on the tyres and jumping off, as the week has progressed the children have grown more independent and confident. Some children were enjoying jumping over obstacles in the garden, we borrowed a set of hurdles from school and the children set up a course in the garden.

Inside we have had some spectacular models made from the magnetic polydron.  This construction toy is very popular in nursery and the children ask for it to be out most weeks.  It is clear to see that their knowledge of the equipment is giving them confidence to be really creative, building bigger and more complex models each week, often working as a team.

To support children with letter recognition the children have been fishing for letters in the water tray.  Some have been collecting the letters in their names to share with an adult independently, other children have been using their snack name cards to help them identify the letters and were excited when they caught the right ones.

Daily snack:

The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.

Notes

Bringing items from home

If your child wishes to bring a toy or comforter to nursery, please can you ensure that they are labelled and small enough to fit in their bag or nursery tray for safe keeping.

Home packed lunch

Please can I remind any parent/carer sending a packed lunch in for their child that we are a nut free school and that both grapes and blueberries need to be cut up.  The recommendation is that grapes need to be quartered.

Change of clothes

We would be really grateful if you could make sure that your child has a full set of spare clothes at nursery.  There are many activities during the day that might cause your child to get messy, dirty or wet and require a change of clothing.  If you have nursery spares at home we would be helpful if you could return them as are stocks are running low after a wet week.

Illness

We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.  If your child is unwell/going to be absent from nursery please notify the school via telephone (01573 224264) or send a message through the Expressions App.

Have a lovely weekend!

Love from the Nursery Team
