Dear nursery families,
What a quick first week we have had back at nursery! Our new children have settled into nursery life really well with the help of their new friends.
Highlights from this week:
Before the holidays, some children commented that they’ve “not had the hair stuff out for ages” so we agreed that when we returned we would be able to have a hair salon. On Monday, within a couple of hours they were organised and open for business. The children made an appointment book which they filled up quickly, they were using money and the stylists and make up artists were rushed off their feet.
We have been reading the Three Little Pigs this week. It has been fantastic watching the children retelling the story and bringing it to life throughout the nursery in their play. They have been making small models with straw, sticks and foam bricks with the largest construction being made in the block area where the children used all of the bricks to make a house for the pigs that they could sit inside. The team work was outstanding, working together to build and repair.
We had two amazing visits to the secret garden this week. On one adventure the children noticed the bird boxes in the trees around the school which lead to wonderful discussions about who might live in them and what they could eat at this time of year. We found some apples and the children were comparing their sizes using language such as: biggest, bigger, middle sized, medium, smallest and tiny. The second group who visited were noticing the sign of spring and identified the wild garlic the was popping up through the undergrowth.
Daily snack:
The children have a variety of fruit and vegetable sticks for morning and afternoon snack along with a drink of milk or water.
Notes
Nursery Enrolment
Enrolment week for three and four year olds for session 2022-23 will take place week commencing Monday 17 January 2022. This will be for children who have their third birthday on or after 1 March 2022. Please apply online through the Scottish Borders Council.
Drop off and collection
We would be really grateful if you could remember to line up at your child’s door/gate in a socially distanced manner to allow staff opportunity to talk to you if required.
Keeping Warm
Please make sure your child brings a hat and gloves to wear at nursery. We try our hardest to make sure they get sent home but we’d be grateful if you could make sure all items are labelled to make this job easier.
Illness
We are continuing to be vigilant and to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance. Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe. If your child is unwell/going to be absent from nursery please notify the school via telephone (01573 224264) or send a message through the Expressions App.
Have a lovely weekend! J
Kind regards,
The Nursery Team
