Nursery bulletin: Friday 18th June 2021

Dear families,

I cannot believe that this is the final Friday Bulletin of the school year.  We have had an unusual year but have made the most of every minute we have had in the nursery.

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

  • The most talked about activity this week must be the ‘campfire’ at the secret garden/nursery garden. They were really excited about eating hotdogs and toasted marshmallows.  We spoke to the children about the importance of keeping safe around fires and barbeques and they were keen to share what they already knew.  The children had to make sure there were enough seats, so they had to count the children and count the wooden stumps and add seats or take some away.  They worked well together to make sure everyone had a space around the fire.
  • Some of the children and staff created a small area in the shade where they could read stories, draw pictures and write. The children found a blanket in the shed and were keen to have a comfy area to relax and play in.
  • Graduation was an event celebrated by all the children, it was wonderful to see the children proudly walk up to the stage and accept their certificates and medals. The younger children were the audience and excitedly clapped every child.  We celebrated with jelly and cake in a whole group snack time across the two bubbles.   The younger children were intrigued by the medals, so they made their own ‘metals’ to celebrate their successful ante pre-school year.
  • The children requested that they have bikes out, so rather than avoiding other children and obstacles in the garden we took them into the P1 playground, and they really enjoyed the opportunities the extra space gave them.

Snacks next week:   Fruit and vegetable sticks are always available with morning snack.

WEEK Morning snack Afternoon snack

Other news:

Miss Fojcik’s last day

We knew this day was coming, it felt so far away but Wednesday will be Miss Fojcik’s last day.  It is hard to believe that when we return in August, Miss Fojcik will be starting her new job at Jedburgh Nursery.  We would like to wish her lots of luck in her new post and thank her for being such a fantastic member and leader of the Edenside Nursery team. We will miss her enthusiasm, creativity, spontaneity, sense of fun and her home baking.

Nursery Graduation

What a fantastic day we had on Wednesday! The children’s excitement was contagious.  As soon as the photo/video montage is ready we will post it on the nursery Facebook page.  We would like to take this opportunity to say what an absolute pleasure it has been being part of your child’s nursery journey.  We are incredibly proud of the way they dealt with all the challenges last year brought.  They have grown and developed into such amazing little people, ready and raring to go for the next stage in their learning.  Well done and good luck in Primary 1; we will miss you all.

Keyworker groups

You will receive a letter next week to let you know who your child’s keyworker will be when we return and which door your child will be dropped off and collected from.  We are hoping to return to nursery in just one bubble, opening the room and garden up to enable children to access all the learning spaces and opportunities and maintain friendships.  We are keeping everything crossed.

Illness

Aware of the rise in Covid cases nationally, we are continuing to be vigilant to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

Important dates

Wednesday 23rd June is the last day of term and the new school year will begin on Wednesday 18th August.

Have a wonderful summer!

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team
