Nursery bulletin: Friday 21st May 2021

Dear families,

We’ve had a week full of love, learning and laughter at nursery.

Highlights from this week:

ELC 1

  • The children had a great morning on the bikes and scooters in the open space by the main door. They were developing their gross motor skills and awareness of space by avoiding obstacles and each other. The children used their counting skills and we used a timer to share the equipment fairly.
  • Some children have really enjoyed having a ‘classroom’ in the story corner. They have been mark making on the chalk board, taking the register and reading stories to each other.  It has been interesting watching the children assuming the role of the teacher, imitating nursery staff when talking to and looking after their pupils.
  • There has been lots of collaborative play this week: the children have been creating large pieces of artwork together, building dens in the secret garden, making a town using the blocks with roads and a car park and working together to create a model using all of the magnetic construction.  It is wonderful to see how their respect for each other’s work and sense of pride for their own contribution has developed.
  • The children have been looking after the plants in the garden and have been watching for signs of growth of their sunflower seeds – some have sprouted already.

Snacks next week:   Fruit and vegetable sticks are always available with morning snack.

Congratulations

We are delighted to announce the safe arrival of Aila Morag Hudson, born on 18th May, weighing 8lbs 9.5.  Both Miss McHarg and Aila are “awesome!”  This is definitely a week of celebration for Miss McHarg as she was also awarded a Degree in Childhood Practice, which we know she has worked so hard to achieve.

Mrs Smithson

As previously mentioned in our newsletter Mrs Smithson will be leaving us on Thursday 27th May.  We would like to wish her luck in her new role and thank her for her hard work and commitment to the children and team at Edenside.  Mrs Little, who has been covering in the nursery since our return in February will join the team who support our Pre-school children.

P1 Transition

We will continue to notify you of significant events for your child’s transition to P1 in this newsletter.  On Tuesday 25th May the children will be visited in Nursery by the Primary 1 teachers.

Facebook

We will be using the Facebook page more frequently to share Nursery life with you from each bubble, please look out for notifications.

Snack money

Please continue to make snack payments of 50p per child per day via ParentPay.  If you are having any problem with this please speak to a member of staff.

Illness

Aware of the rise in Covid cases nationally, we are continuing to be vigilant to keep everyone in our learning community safe. If your child shows any symptoms of being unwell, please do keep them at home. If anyone in the family shows symptoms of Covid-19, please follow the NHS Scotland guidance.  Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.

Have a lovely weekend!

Kind regards,

The Nursery Team
