Edenside Offer – Outdoor Learning

An aspect of our school that we will be developing over the coming year is what we are calling the ‘Edenside Offer’; an approach that seeks to provide our children with a number of new exciting and enriching opportunities. Core learning in Literacy and Numeracy remains at the heart of our curriculum but we also believe that our children learn in a variety of ways and through different experiences.

One such enriching experience is the opportunity to learn outdoors. Learning outside of the classroom is recognised as important for physical, emotional, social and mental wellbeing as well as providing many rich experiences to develop literacy and numeracy skills. With this in mind, we will now be providing regular outdoor learning for all pupils from nursery through to Primary 7 on either a Monday or a Tuesday.

Class teachers will put a note in homework diaries to let you know which day your child needs to be ‘outdoor ready’. What does this mean? Send your child to school with a bag of clothes, a pair of shoes (or wellies) and a coat that can all get a bit grubby!

We are very excited about this new opportunity, led by Mrs Welch, that will see pupils learning in and about the outdoors, both within and ideally out with our school grounds.

Thank you in anticipation of your support with this. As always, if you have any questions (or just need some outdoor clothes) please get in touch with us at school.
