Drowning Prevention Week this year will run from Friday 14th – Monday 24th June 2019. As the summer holidays approach and the temperatures start creeping up (hopefully), the appeal and attraction of our local rivers, lochs and reservoirs is greater to our young people.
Drowning remains one of the leading causes of accidental death in children and young people in the UK. The Drowning Prevention campaign is run by the Royal Life Saving Society UK and aims to reduce the number of drowning and non-fatal water related incidents that occur in the UK every year, by showing people how to stay safe and have fun near water.
Scottish Borders Council are supporting Drowning Prevention Week and have provided the attached documents below outlining the associated dangers and the ways to stay safe around water.
We hope you find this information helpful.
